Howard Kaikow

Howard Kaikow was one of the main architects of the High Sierra format and ISO 9660:1988 standard that defines the volume and file structure of CD-ROM. He authored the High Sierrra format paper and is often credited/blamed for being the author of ISO 9660 (two others were involved editorially, but Howard still accepts the blame).

He has recently been involved in designing and writing the new ISO/IEC 13490 standard for the volume and file structure of CD-ROM and CD-Recordable media, as well as the companion ISO/IEC 13346 standard for non-sequential media such as WORM, optical disks, etc. And he was the architect and editor of the forthcoming ISO/IEC 13800 which establishes procedures for the registration of attributes and identifiers used by ISO/IEC 13346 and ISO/IEC 13490.

Howard Kaikow is available for consultation with system and CD-ROM developers to review product specifications for authoring, mastering, writing and reading systems to help them ensure compliance with the ISO 9660:1988, ISO/IEC 13346 and ISO/IEC 13490 standards.
